Ten years ago when CUFI was founded we couldn’t imagine the state of the world today. Since 2008 we have seen a precipitous decline in American standing around the globe. Our enemies no longer fear us, and our friends no longer trust us.
Among the central failures of the current administration’s foreign policy approach has been the complete and utter capitulation to Iran in negotiations with that regime over its nuclear weapons program.
When these negotiations were discussed publicly we were assured that there would be un-crossable red lines, and that a no deal was preferable to a bad one. But when the announcement came - the very morning CUFI activists attending our 2015 Washington Summit were headed to Capitol Hill we learned that the shocking and pessimistic reports about this disastrous deal were in fact true. Every red line was crossed, and a bad deal was struck.
Of the six parameters CUFI and many others thought necessary to ensure the deal was worth the paper upon which it is printed, none were met. So we’re going to stop this deal from moving forward.
The battle has been set, the players have taken their spots, and the orders have been given. CUFI will devote every necessary resource, bring to bear the full weight of our 2.2 million members, and ensure that every staffer, lay-leader and board member is laser focused on convincing two-thirds of Congress to vote against this terrible deal.
This effort began in earnest within hours of the deal’s announcement. Though in year’s past, CUFI delegates have asked three things of their elected officials during our annual Washington Summit, this year they focused on just one: stopping the disastrous agreement with Iran.
The instant our plane’s touched-down back home from Washington, CUFI was putting together talking points and an action alert focused on this issue.
In the days and weeks to come, we will organize local meetings and run advertisements aimed at convincing our elected officials to abide the will of the people and vote down this deal.
If the deal were subject to a simple majority vote, it would be dead on arrival in Congress. But because the President endeavored to bypass Congress altogether, the only Constitutional recourse we now have is to pass vetoproof legislation that will stop this deal in its tracks. And to make that happen we need you.
Each-and-every member of CUFI needs to call their Representative and both their Senators asking them to vote against this deal. Each-and-every member of CUFI needs to respond to the action alert we sent last week. And if in the coming weeks a local meeting with your elected official or their staff is arranged, we need you to be there.
10 years ago CUFI was created now we know it was for such a time as this. Godspeed to all of you who stand with us and with Israel during this pivotal time. Your voice and support is what stands between Iran and a nuclear weapon.
Blessings to you and those you love,
