CUFI Statement on Christian Clergy Letter Concerning Aid to Israel
October 11, 2012
WASHINGTON – On Thursday, David Brog, executive director of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), released the following statement concerning a letter recently sent to Members of Congress by a group of Christian clergy.
“We are confident that Congress understands that the Christians who signed this one-sided letter don't even represent the rank-and-file of their own denominations, let alone the majority of American Christians. The vast majority of American Christians understand that there is no moral equivalence between the terrorists who seek to kill Israeli civilians and Israel's efforts to stop these terrorists. The vast majority of American Christians realize that when Israel confronts Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, it is confronting shared enemies on our behalf. And the vast majority of American Christians know that while Israel -- like the U.S. -- is not perfect, both of our nations are committed to fighting terrorism while adhering to the highest moral standards,” Brog said.
“We are living through an era of daunting threats and enormous atrocities. Syria is slaughtering its civilians. Ancient Christian communities in Egypt and Iraq (both recipients of U.S. aid) are collapsing as a consequence of repeated bloody attacks. Iran -- the number one state sponsor of terrorism -- is getting ever closer to acquiring the ultimate weapon of mass destruction. The fact that these Christians chose to ignore all of these crises and instead focus their concern on Israel's behavior calls into question not only their objectivity, but their very ability to recognize evil in the world,” Brog concluded.
Christians United for Israel is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States and one of the leading Christian grassroots movements in the world. CUFI spans all fifty states and reaches millions with its message. Each year CUFI holds hundreds of pro-Israel events in cities around the country. And each July, thousands of pro-Israel Christians gather in Washington, D.C. to participate in the CUFI Washington Summit and make their voices heard in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
CUFI’s mission is to provide a national association through which every pro-Israel church, parachurch organization, ministry or individual in America can speak and act with one voice in support of Israel.

We believe that the Jewish people have a right to live in their ancient land of Israel, and that the modern State of Israel is the fulfillment of this historic right.
