Standing With Israel

May 30 - Montgomery, AL

Holocaust survivor Irving Roth was the keynote speaker at the historic Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, the first pastorate of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the current senior pastorate of Rev. Cromwell Handy.  The promotional efforts of the Jewish Federation of Central Alabama resulted in several from the community joining Christians for the event.   Officials from the federation were also on hand.  Pastor Handy extended an invitation to hold several meetings in the future as a result of the gathering.

All who attended heard an introduction to CUFI and the overwhelming contributions of Jewish American civil rights activists to the cause of African American civil liberties over the last 110 years.  Following the presentation, the attendees were moved by the compelling story of survival of Mr. Roth who escaped the the Holocaust.

Several media outlets were present to interview Mr. Roth.  Interestingly, the meeting fell on the Feast of Pentecost, one of the seven feasts of the Lord mentioned in the Bible, a day of deep significance to both Jews and Christians.  How fitting a setting for the two communities to come together on this feast day to stand for Israel.

The Israel Pledge

We believe that the Jewish people have a right to live in their ancient land of Israel, and that the modern State of Israel is the fulfillment of this historic right.

We maintain that there is no excuse for acts of terrorism against Israel and that Israel has the same right as every other nation to defend her citizens from such violent attacks.

We pledge to stand with our brothers and sisters in Israel and to speak out on their behalf whenever and wherever necessary until the attacks stop and they are finally living in peace and security with their neighbors.
