CUFI held our ninth annual Washington Summit at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on July 21-22, 2014
The Summit featured a host of leading experts, religious leaders and political figures including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (taped message), former Deputy National Security Advisor Elliot Abrams, Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN), Senators Bob Corker (R-TN), John Cornyn (R-TX), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), James Inhofe (R-OK), and Tim Scott (R-SC), Israel's Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Dr. Charles Krauthammer, and former CIA director James Woolsey.
There were many memorable speeches delivered, and the crowd of more than 4,800 repeatedly jumped to their feet in applause.
At the Summit’s gala event, the Night to Honor Israel, CUFI founder and Chairman Pastor John Hagee focused on allowing Israel to defend itself from Palestinian terror free of international pressure. “Let Israel finish the job. Let every rocket be dismantled. Let every tunnel be destroyed,” Hagee said.
During his remarks that same evening, Dermer deftly defended his nation and took on those who lack the moral clarity to distinguish between Israel’s efforts to defend itself, and Hamas’s brutal campaign of terror. “…the truth is that the Israeli Defense Forces should be given the Nobel Peace Prize… a Nobel Peace Prize for fighting with unimaginable restraint. One day, when the enemies of Israel are defeated and the cynics are silenced, people will look back and marvel at how the most threatened nation on earth never lost its nerve and always upheld its values.” Dermer said.
Following a packed day of informative plenary sessions culminating in a nationally televised Night to Honor Israel, CUFI delegates heard from a half-dozen members of Congress and then went to Capitol Hill in order to lobby in support of pro-Israel legislation.
On the heels of news that the interim Iran nuclear agreement had been extended for four more months, Cruz focused much of his comments on the threat from the Islamic Republic. “Give up the centrifuges. Hand over the enriched uranium—all of it. Shut down the ICBM program,” he said.
One CUFI supported bill, the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act of 2014, passed the House of Representatives by a margin of 404-0 the very evening CUFI delegates had been on the Hill.
I am a pastor and have been a member of CUFI for 4 years. Our church has been faithful in having a CUFI Sunday the last 3 years. My attending the Summit this year was uplifting and energizing to see and meet people from around the country who are like minded in faith and support for Israel. I want to get others from my church to attend to get better informed and to support Israel in speaking with our legislators.
— Pastor Sprowls from Berlin, PA
This was our first Summit and was inspirational. Informed us and motivated us to become more involved in national and local politics. Also motivated us to do more to support Israel in our daily lives and in our community.
— James Burns from Leeds, AL
It was a pleasure to meet with thousands of Christians who support Israel. The CUFI Summit brings Christians from throughout the United States into one place to learn the current events in Israel from wonderful speakers, members of Congress while allowing us to me with our Congressional representatives to show our solidarity with Israel. I would encourage everyone to meet with us in Washington D.C. in 2015.
— Joseph Del'marmol from Roseville, CA
While most Christians support Israel, as individuals it is difficult to make ourselves heard over the roar of D.C. politics. CUFI galvanizes our individual support for Israel into one loud voice made up of many. This was our fifth summit and we always come away with a new insight or perspective on Israel's struggle. We will be there again next year.
— Jim Jurski from Mullin, TX
The Summit equipped me with current, relevant information on Israel and the Middle East. In addition to prayer, I've been empowered to start performing righteous acts on Israel's behalf both in my church community and at the state and national levels.
— Melissa Rosenberg from Conshohocken, PA
In a time of dire terrorist threats throughout the world, CUFI provides a real moment of clarity as to what the West is facing. It is an incredible educational tool, as well as a spiritual lift. We need to stand together, Christians and Jews, to prevail against this evil.
— Sharon Prober from New Haven, CT
The Washington Summit is the best way to understand and learn firsthand from experts and those on the front-lines in Israel the truth about Israel as a nation and the untruth of the current anti-Israel narrative. There is no other place where Christians and Jews come together for a united purpose. There are many pro-Israel organizations but only Cufi equips the believer with facts, inspiration, faith and the practical tools needed to fulfill our Biblical Mandate to stand with Israel.
— Gerald Chavez from Roswell, NM
The bonds that are formed at this event have changed my life. Friendships with people who share the same passions for God and Israel is truly a blessing. Christians and Jews joining together to show their support of Israel is a life changing experience! The speaker lineup is always incredible, the subject matter is always intense, and the Night to Honor Israel is guaranteed to get you on your feet - dancing, singing and participating in the thunderous applause!
— Deloris Snider from Pantego, NC
I came feeling powerless, what can one person do? I left feeling empowered, with a sense that at least I made my voice heard! I am now a part of this group of 1.8 million who are willing to act on their beliefs. At the conference they told us the old quote, "all that is necessary for evil to succeed, is for good men to do nothing. I did something, and it is good!
— Barbara Tate from Havertown, PA
Being able to participate in such an amazing event for the last three years has changed my life. The CUFI Summit is a time when you can "DO" something and see the impact as subsequent events unfold in the news about Iran and Israel. This year's event and its timing were crucial because of the war. I received an update email from someone in Israel who said that many of the Jews there don't know the specific names of organizations or people in the US that support and help them but they do know these two names: Christians United for Israel and John Hagee.
— Estes William from Smyrna, GA
I am a 28 year old from De Witt, Iowa and this was my first summit I have ever attended. I felt such sadness this year for Israel and its lack of support it has been receiving from our federal government so I decided to attend and do my best to show support for God's beautiful nation. The event touched my heart and helped me become refreshed and renewed in the fight to support and advocate for Israel wherever I go.
— Heath Schaper from De Witt, IA
The CUFI Summit is an exhilarating experience where you can connect with old friends and make new ones who share a love for Israel and stand up to support its people and the Jewish State. Unequivocally! A breath of fresh air and so inspiring. CUFI is all about strong leadership and what it can accomplish with a clear and direct message about where it stands on Israel. Thank you CUFI and thank you Pastor Hagee for all that you do!
— Fern Baker from Chicago, IL
We believe that the Jewish people have a right to live in their ancient land of Israel, and that the modern State of Israel is the fulfillment of this historic right.
