CUFI Welcomes FATF Blacklisting Iran

February 21, 2020 WASHINGTON – On Friday, the leadership of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, issued a statement welcoming the decision by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to blacklist Iran due to the Islamic Republic’s continued terror financing.

“As CUFI has been saying for years, banks still doing business with Iran should close their doors to the world’s leading state sponsor of terror. We are grateful the FATF has finally made good on its threat to sanction Tehran,” said CUFI founder and Chairman Pastor John Hagee.

“CUFI has long supported President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign against Iran, and while it has been very effective, actions like these are necessary to ensuring Tehran’s continued economic and diplomatic isolation. The FATF’s blacklist is an excellent precursor to sanctioning Iran’s entire financial sector,” added CUFI Action Fund Chairwoman Sandra Parker.

In June of last year, CUFI’s Senior Director of Policy and Communications, Ari Morgenstern, authored an op-ed calling for the FATF to take action against Iran.

“This should have happened some time ago, but better late than never,” Morgenstern noted. “Our European allies, as well as those Members of Congress that seem fixated on undermining U.S. policy towards Tehran, need to acknowledge that the maximum pressure campaign is the best way to avoid conflict with Iran.”

With more than 8 million members, Christians United for Israel is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States and one of the leading Christian grassroots movements in the world. CUFI spans all fifty states and reaches millions with its educational message.

The CUFI Action Fund, a nonprofit 501(c)(4), nonpartisan organization, is related to the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, Christians United for Israel (CUFI). The Action Fund is dedicated to ensuring our elected officials hear the perspective of the millions of Christian Zionists across the country.
