‘Our partnership is built over generations based on shared values,’ US defense secretary stresses

Israeli Defense Minister and Alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz visited the US Tuesday to discuss Middle East developments in a series of meetings with top American officials.

With Washington and Abu Dhabi reportedly negotiating a deal over F-35 fighter jets in the background, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper promised the defense minister that the US would maintain Israel’s qualitative edge in the Middle Eastduring their meeting in the Pentagon.

“Our partnership is built over generations based on shared values, shared interests and shared concerns,” Esper said.

He further stipulated that the bonds of friendship among the peoples of Israel and the United States are unbreakable.

Gantz thanked Esper for the warm welcome and promised on Israel’s part to deepen the partnership.

Earlier, Gantz had met with senior advisor to the US president Jared Kushner and US National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, reportedly stressing that “we will persist in our uncompromising efforts to halt Iranian aggression and will enlist other countries in the efforts as well.”
