Incident follows uptick that saw riots, explosives thrown at IDF soldiers along Gazan border
Israeli warplanes and helicopters struck underground tunnel networks in the southern Gaza Strip Monday night, as Gazan terrorist groups continued to release waves of incendiary balloons.
“Earlier today, explosive and arson balloons were launched from the Gaza Strip into Israel,” the IDF spokesperson’s unit said in a tweet.
“In response, a short while ago, IDF fighter jets and aircraft struck underground infrastructures belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip.”
Palestinian news agency Sawa posted a video showing the strike, which it said took place in farming land near the defunct airport in the Rafah area, southern Gaza.
The overnight airstrike follows an uptick in cross-border violence over the past couple weeks, with hundreds of acres burned in fires caused by the balloons.
