Suspect arrested after approaching policeman, IDF soldier with knife, ignoring orders to halt

A stabbing attack was thwarted at a junction near Hebron, in the Gush Etzion region in the West Bank, Israel Police announced early on Monday.

According to the Kippah news outlet, the attacker approached a police officer and an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier at the junction with a knife in his hand.

He ignored their orders to halt, prompting them to draw their firearms. The suspect was arrested and questioned. His knife has been found on the scene, Police Foreign Spokesman’s office said.

No shots were fired during the arrest, and no injuries were reported in the incident, the report said.

The security presence in the area was stepped up to thwart further violence, the police maintained.

Tensions are running high in the West Bank in the wake of Israel’s agreements to normalize ties with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, condemned by the Palestinian leadership as a betrayal.
