Iranian supreme leader tells Iraqi PM he expects his country to expel US forces from region

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei threatened Washington on Tuesday over the killing of Iranian top general Qasem Soleimani in January in Iraq.

“They killed your guest in your house and blatantly confessed to it,” Khamenei told Iraqi counterpart Mustafa Al-Kadhimi who made a formal trip to Tehran.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will never forget the martyrdom of Hajj Qasem Soleimani and will definitely strike a reciprocal blow to the US,” Iran’s leader continued.

The Iraqi prime minister made his first visit abroad since taking office in May 2020. He was supposed to visit Saudi Arabia first but postponed the Riyadh trip due to the King’s recent hospitalization.

Khamenei clarified that his nation would not interfere with his neighbor’s relations with the US, but did warn his visitor that American “presence in any country causes corruption, ruin and destruction.”
